The Process

  • The Campus Conservation & Development Plan, which was published in 2010 and can be viewed on the school’s website, identified the Southern Campus as the least constrained and most suitable for redevelopment. In July 2016, the school published initial proposals for the modernisation of the site.
  • This was followed by a phase of public consultation by the College, where members of the public were invited to view the proposals and make submissions regarding the scheme. These were taken into consideration and included in a Statement of Community Involvement that formed part of the planning application that was submitted to Winchester City Council (WCC) in February 2017. Key stakeholders and members of the public then had the opportunity to make comments to the City Council regarding the planning permission which was subsequently granted in September 2017.
  • The school currently expects the development to take place in two main phases.
Phase 1 is expected to take place between Summer 2018 – Summer 2019, and include the construction of the Support Services Building followed by the construction of temporary sports facilities on Kingsgate Park.
Phase 2 is expected to begin in Summer 2019 and include the demolition of the existing PE Centre and construction and fit-out of the new Sports Centre.
  • Opening of the new Sports Centre is expected to take place in early 2022.

More detailed information on the various stages of the build will be updated here following the appointment of a contractor between Spring – Summer 2018.
